چکیده

Mycorrhizal and dark septate endophyte in Chlorophytum borivillianum cultivated in different parts of southwest India was found. Dark septate fungi with melanized hyphae and microsclerotia were documented. During culturing of themicrosclerotia-containing roots, fungi with `Rhizoctonia-like’ characters developed. The fungi showed reluctance in sporulation but produced microsclerotia in the medium. Specific taxa and their ecological role can be attributed only after detailed studies as different strains of single taxamay vary greatly in their physiology.

Mycorrhizal Formation and Diversity of Endophytic Fungi in Hair Roots of Vaccinium oldhamii Miq. in Japan

The root diameters as well as colonization and diversity of the root-associating fungi of Vaccinium oldhamii Miq. were investigated in order to obtain information on their mycorrhizal properties. The distal regions of roots had typical hair roots with diameters of less than 100 μm. Ericoid mycorrhizal fungi (ErMF) and dark septate endophytes (DSE) were frequently observed in the roots. Ascomyce...

Mycorrhizas and dark septate root endophytes in polar regions

We review the distributions and functions of mycorrhizas and dark septate root endophytes in polar regions. Arbuscular mycorrhizas (AM) are present in the Arctic and Antarctic to 82 oN and 63 oS, respectively, with fine endophyte being the dominant form of AM in roots at higher latitudes. Ecto(ECM) and ericoid (ERM) mycorrhizas both occur in the Arctic to 79 oN, owing to the presence of species...

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and dark septate fungi in plants associated with aquatic environments

Th ere have been several reports of symbionts in the roots of plants that live in aquatic environments. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are the most common microsymbionts and possibly recolonized the aquatic environment together with plants; however, their functions and the extent of their benefi ts are unclear. Furthermore, the presence of other groups of fungi, such as dark septate fungi (...

Dark septate endophyte decreases stress on rice plants

Abiotic stress is one of the major limiting factors for plant development and productivity, which makes it important to identify microorganisms capable of increasing plant tolerance to stress. Dark septate endophytes can be symbionts of plants. In the present study, we evaluated the ability of dark septate endophytes isolates to reduce the effects of water stress in the rice varieties Nipponbar...

The Potential of Dark Septate Endophytes to Form Root Symbioses with Ectomycorrhizal and Ericoid Mycorrhizal Middle European Forest Plants

The unresolved ecophysiological significance of Dark Septate Endophytes (DSE) may be in part due to existence of morphologically indistinguishable cryptic species in the most common Phialocephala fortinii s. l.--Acephala applanata species complex (PAC). We inoculated three middle European forest plants (European blueberry, Norway spruce and silver birch) with 16 strains of eight PAC cryptic spe...
